A LOOK BACK: MOUNT MAUNGANUI

The turn of the 21st century has been a period of radical change. The technological revolution may have not have given us flying cars, but we have smartphones, the internet, and a way of life that even H. G. Wells couldn't have predicted. I recently came across a number of historical photos of Mt Maunganui and its surrounds on the database of the National Library of New Zealand. The photos struck me deeply of how much has really changed. I offer a number of them below with my own perspective and comments. BIG SUN SURF BUCKET + MORE

New goods added to the online store. It's been a long hot summer with plenty time in the water and a couple days left us especially cooked, inspiring us to create three hats. Introducing the Surf Bucket, a water proof dome protector for those especially long sessions, the Six Panel and a regular Bucket. There's also a tee with a print of our Made In NZ poster inspired by popular demand.

VINTAGE FIND: 60'S ERA DUNLOP AND TED DAVIDSON

Recently we were contacted by a lady explaining she had found two old surfboards under her Mt Maunganui house, and asked if we could take them away for her. Imagine our surprise to find a completely refurbished Dunlop and a mint condition Ted Davidson.  Dunlop was the major producer of commercial longboards in mid 60's, sold in sportswear stores and matched in number only by the other big manufacture, Atlas Woods. Frank Williams was the man behind the brand, starting off in his parents garage, inspired in 1958 by meeting the Californian's Bing Copperland and Rick Stoner with their foam and fibreglass surfboards, the first modern surfboards ever seen in New Zealand.
